On May 12-15, 2009, the ECOWAS Commission and ReSAKSS-West Africa jointly held a regional workshop on agricultural trends and progress in living conditions in West Africa. The overall objective of the workshop was to track the main trends observed in the agricultural sector and measure the progress achieved in relation to MDG1.

The workshop’s summary report points out that agriculture in West Africa has still not received the funding levels committed by African governments under the Maputo Declaration and that agricultural growth has been inconsistent and low in recent years in the region. The conference concluded with specific ways forward for countries and for ECOWAS.

The workshop summary report is available for download here.
