New ReSAKSS Issue Brief Finds CAADP Beneficial for Uganda, Reduces Poverty

December 14, 2009

ReSAKSS Issue Briefs number 16, “CAADP Promotes Pro-Poor Growth and Poverty Reduction in Uganda” analyzes the feasibility of the CAADP 6 percent agricultural growth target and its potential impact on the Ugandan economy. Based on an IFPRI economy-wide model, the brief reports that the 6 percent agricultural growth target is within reach for the country and that it can significantly reduce poverty. Although the country is already on track to meet MDG1 by 2015, increasing agricultural growth in line with the CAADP targeted rate would further reduce the number of Ugandans in poverty by over 2 million.
