Joint UNECA and AUC report estimates 27m new poor people in Africa following crisis

Economic Report on Africa 2010

The Economic Report on Africa 2010 was jointly published by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union Commission (AUC). The report broadly assesses recent global economic developments, and economic and social conditions and emerging issues in Africa, including trade negotiations, financing development and climate change. The report then explores a theme of foremost importance to the long-term economic and social development of the continent: promoting high-level sustainable growth to reduce unemployment in Africa. The report points out that the projected increase in the number of people living on less than $2/day for 2009 is 27 million.
