Reflections on the Global Food Crisis: How Did It Happen? How Has It Hurt? And How Can We Prevent the Next One?,  Derek Headey and Shenggen Fan, 2010

Headey and Fan (2010) cite rising oil prices, increased biofuel demand, and trade events (export restrictions and panic purchases) as the principle causes of the 2007-2008 global food crisis.  Their reflections culminate in strategies for the prevention of future food crises. Among these strategies, they offer suggestions for improving smallholder productivity–an objective in line with the CAADP initiative.
